"Linked in" is like FaceBook for the business community click here and create yourself a free profile, when your done doing that visit the App store and download the Linked In app for Iphone.  The app itself is pretty spiffy; clean, simple & FREE and with recent updates your now able to change your profile picture within the App...LOVE THIS!!!

Another great App that would be considered an extension of Linked In is Card Munch.  This App turns your Ipad/Iphone into a business card scanner, you basically take a photo within the app then it creates a digital rolodex that links to Linked In contacts.  Its GREAT and from what I hear from fellow users the feeling is mutual.

Check out my linked in profile and click below.

Finish it off with some wine

A few years ago the clients came to me to reface their
kitchen in Kitchen Craft product and after careful consideration decided on
Traditional/Oak/Espresso, door style, species & color.
And what a great choice it was for them.

In recent months the clients have returned to me and
asked me to design and quote the addition of a wine section.
After a couple designs we came to the decision that the pictured-above worked
best for their needs.
Design additions include; frosted glass feature, wine storage,
large multi-storage drawer and a pull out waste bin.

Thermofoil Cabinets

Thermofoil;
Is a plastic coating which is thermoformed to a MDF core material.
Thermofoils are nearly "bullet proof" say many Manufacturers and they are VERY tough indeed.  Many thermofoils that I have worked with in the past seem to take a great deal of abuse.  However, when thermofoils are over exposed to heat they tend to peel and melt, this is understandable as they are thermoformed to the the MDF cores in the first place.  Certain precautions must be taken when you have thermofoils in your home; don't have candles, coffee pots, toasters, you get the idea directly against/under your thermo materials.
Thermofoils are one of the most affordable materials to work with, saying that you will also pay a great deal more for a thermofoil with a horizontal bamboo or metalic pattern then say an ordinary textured white thermofoil.

Kitchen Conveniences & Techno Burst

Kitchen Conveniences
Seen to the left is the
double waste bin with two
smaller organic bins with lids.  This unit
fits a 24” wide cabinet.  Not seen
in photo is the metal lid that
is mounted inside the cabinet
below the drawer line.
Today I would say this is a common
feature seen in most renovated
kitchens.

Photo Measures
Since I have purchased my IPAD2 (with camera) I have been using this app.  I would say it works well for taking quick measures and capturing those images that could be tough to remember.  This app allows us to create various dimensions  and notes on the picture taken.  I find it to be a nifty tool for my industry however I don't think it could replace a pen and paper when working with large scale measures ,ie.large kitchens  Works great for small measures such as a  washroom but it is difficult to get the right shot when space is tight.  This app goes for $4.99 on the app store.  App functions as expected but I will be watching the store for new tools...something a bit more pretty.

Introducing TECHNO BURST

Today I was asked by a colleague "which app I used on my iPad to note pdfs and drawings".  I realized this would be the perfect opportunity and platform to help point my peeps in the right direction and provide useful links and how-to's.  Techno Burst posts will be, in some way, related to the design industry and my specialty, Kitchen Design.  It may include; iPad apps, kitchen technology, software how-to's and what ever else I can think of to share.

To answer your question Heather, the best app I have found to note pdfs, hold pdfs in an organized manner and to present in a professional manner is iAnnotate PDF.  You will find it in the App Store for a whopping $9.99...but it's worth it.

KBIS 2011 (Blum Display)

As a kitchen design professional it's import to be aware of organizational solutions and gadgets that a client could want or may not know of.  Blum offers a variety of products to fit our needs and to make our spaces better organized.  Of coarse Blum is not the the only solution for us there are many, however their name is one of the most well known in our industry and they manufacture a quality product.

Below you will find a couple shots of one of my favorite products they produce.  This system allows us to use a pot and pan drawer to hold and organize our; plates, bowls and other such items.

BLUM

KBIS 2011 (Cambria)

Browsing the show I was able to check out the Cambria display, view some of their new (unreleased) colors and see some of my favorites.
The display was clean and and well thought out, the stations manned with friendly knowledgeable people.

(below are a couple new unreleased colors, Cambria staff assured me that they will be releasing them later this year, and I will be anxious to see what clients think of them)

For those of you who know me you know I'm a Cambria Booster.  Their colors are incredible, their manufacturing superb, all around perfect quartz product.
I know many of you wonder is quartz better than granite?, is granite better than quartz?  That I will leave in the eye of the beholder.
Quartz is maintenance free, its fairly repairable and I know I would put it in my own home.

KBIS 2011 (Master Brands)

I am happy to say I finally was able to see the Master Brands Display, offering a wide variety of brands and styles Master Brand Cabinets has something for every design style.  Brands include; OmegaKITCHEN CRAFT.

KBIS 2011 (Kohler Display)

Kohler absolutely massive and impressive display, well manned to handle the masses and well planned with custom cocktails for grab (YUM).  They really rolled out the red carpet for this one...could it have to do with the unveiling of the NUMI...

(Abrazo; made of Lithocast a solid surface material that allows Kohler designers to shape and move their designs into sculptural pcs, easy to clean and warm to the touch)
ABRAZO

(Numi; a highly advanced and modern styled toilet, featuring; motion activated lid and seat, advanced bidet system, deodorizer, heated seat, foot warmer, illuminated rear side panels, sound system)
NUMI

(8Degree; designed to maximize basin space, provides a unique and clean design and is made of one of the most timeless sink materials "stainless steel")
8DEGREE

KBIS 2011

It was my first time attending KBIS and what a great show...not only that it was my first time to Vegas and for those of you who haven't been I would recommend it.  Great excursions, hotels, nightlife, entertainment and architecture.  Little something for everyone I suppose.
The Las Vegas convention center is of decent size...well huge actually, well laid out, organized and not to far from most hotels.

Cabs always available and cost just $7.50 plus tip to get most places central, which makes for quick and easy travel.
